ECAT involves the community in improving the water quality of Elwood Canal and the 41 square kilometre-Elster Creek Catchment which feeds it. Our work aims to reduce plastic pollution and other contaminants and pathogens into our waterway and ultimately to Port Phillip Bay. These materials have critically endangered the 81 indigenous Burruran Dolphins in the bay which have the world's highest level of PFAs ('forever ') chemicals deriving from plastic. Of course, all bay marine life is also threatened as well as the health of bay users.
WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR
Key achievements include:

- funding and procuring independent sediment test results thus proving serious canal pollution
- supporting the Yalukit Willam Nature Association by advocating for the implementation of the Masterplan including its flood mitigation provisions
- helping raise community awareness of the threats to the Elwood Canal and Elster Creek Catchment
